Ransome Stanley (b. 1953), British artist of Nigerian-German descent.

Stanley was born in London to a Nigerian father and German mother, and he currently lives and works in Munich. His art engages postocoloniality, modernity and 19th century colonial depictions of the subaltern. Stanley engages the globalized and exotified stereotypes of Africans – dominant among 19th century bourgeois Westerners and still in today’s world. He interrogates these idioms as false markers of the dualism between colony and the metropole.
