African Typeface: Ikhaya Lami

African Typeface: Ikhaya Lami

South African graphic artist Netanya Edges, was inspired by graphic designer Saki Mafundikwa. Saki Mafundikwa is a world renowned graphic designer and author of The Afrikan Alphabets, a book dedicated to African typeface and alphabets.

Netanya designed a typeface that represented home, which they aplty named “Ikhaya Lami” – “My Home”.

“For me, Africa is home and this was the natural starting point for my typeface which i named “Ikhaya Lami”~ “My Home”. I therefore decided to create my typeface through a manipulation of different African symbols. I believe that I succeeded in using these symbols to portray an African feeling in my typeface.
