I would suggest going on to the buddypress website. http://buddypress.org/ They have a really good forum. The reason why I chose it is also because of its great integration with wordpress and i like its simple functionality. Obviously as I learn more about it there will be greater things to come.

to make the member “blogging” area spam/ad free? If that isn’t possible then is it possible to monetise member blogs that the site owner chooses to feature?
Also I presume banner ads (skyscrapers etc) can be integrated into a typical “buddypress” built site.
