Senegalese Graphic Artist Audrey d’Erneville

Audrey d’Erneville, Artist & Art Director, was born in Paris but made the world her home. Currently living between Dakar and Los Angeles, she also spent some of her childhood in South Africa, and strives to create work that is as rich and colorful as her cultural background.

Multi-faceted creative, she has always been inspired by her Senegalese culture: the car rapides, barber shop signs, textiles, the colors of the city…. And it is a desire to create a sort of Senegalese pop art that launched her into the Art World. Her background in graphic design is reflected in the typography and the layout of her paintings.

In her work she explores several subjects that are close to her heart such as the place and strength of African Women, and Senegalese history & culture, always with a Nostalgic feel. She makes Art for the African diaspora, who like her, wants to see their culture represented in a contemporary and accessible way. She hopes to also empower more young Africans to get interested in making and collecting Art.

In July 2021, her work was shown and gain great success during the gallery show “L’année d’après” in Paris Theatre Paris Villette, during the festival Génération A (Saison Africa 2020). And her first large scale painting was exhibited during the 2022 Dakar Biennale.

Audrey d’Erneville is also the founder and artist behind Chez Awa, a lifestyle and apparel brand focused on creating west-African inspired goods, and collaborating with fellow African entrepreneurs and creatives. “Chez Awa” is an hommage to the 70s magazine “Awa: la revue de la femme noire”, an independent magazine produced in Senegal by a network of African women including Annette Mbaye d’Erneville her great-aunt and first African female journalist.
