African Cities in Motion: Timelapse photography by Mayeul Akpovi

Mayeul Akpovi is a photographer from Contonou, Benin. He has been experimenting with timelapse and hyperlapse photography as a way to capture various urban centers across the globe. His latest project, Abidjan in Motion, consists of 15 days of shooting and 15 days of piecing over 45,00 still photographers that capture the city of Abidjan.

“Cotonou is the largest city and economic centre of Benin (Africa), although Porto-Novo is the capital. Every time I have to talk about Cotonou, I usually have in mind its minimalist architechture, its road traffic with Zemidjan (motorcycle taxis), its international market (Dantokpa), its beaches and one of its best animated tourist suburbs (Ganvié, a lagoon city, better known as the African Venice) …”
