When you take a look at Travys Owen’s work you can see the care and sophistication cultivated by a strict discipline to take on challenging self-initiated projects. Owen comes from the Eastern Cape in South Africa with a strong background with graphic design and illustration which explains his strong compositions. Owen is both a photographer and film director and has successful projects under his belt including Petite Noir’s Best.
“‘We wanted to make 4 distinct ‘tribes’ of people. This allowed us to create a visual journey that Yannick is on, running through all of these different landscapes and allowed us to create these rich scenes which were very different from each other.”
I personally have a general distaste for ‘editorial photography’. But there is something different to me with Owen’s work. His work shows he is not afraid to experiment and his work feels comfortable playing with the surreal. I truly find his portfolio to be spectacular and I would love to follow his other experimentations.
