Nika Mtwana is a painter and graphic designer living and working in Johannesburg.
“The purpose of my artwork is to elevate African identity. I believe that staying true to who I am and being proud of where I come from is a beautiful idea that can improve my confidence and love for self. I also believe that I can reach my goals and make my dreams come true without sacrificing my culture.”
“My paintings are metaphors layered with symbolism. The mechanical parts symbolize growth, transformation and advancement. I use children for the human parts of my subjects, because I believe that people should be taught at a young age to love themselves and embrace their traditions. I am influenced by Science Fiction films like Blade Runner, Terminator, Black Panther and many more.”
